With the opening of Phase 1 in August 2009, the Friends have taken on a new role of supporting stewardship of an existing trail. In that role, we have been providing financial support for amenities to benefit users of the trail. In 2010, we expended $900 for portable toilets and $2400 for trail rules signs. In 2009, we contributed $1400 for murals. In 2011, we have an opportunity to fund kiosks, benches, bike racks, and, once again, portable toilets for the rail trail.
We need your help generating the revenue to pay for these items. The immediate need is $2,290 for a kiosk to be installed on the trail in Chelmsford Center this spring. The kiosk is being constructed by students at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. It will be similar to a kiosk installed on the Nashua River Rail Trail at Station Avenue in Groton and will provide information requested by trail users. Details about the kiosk can be found at here (pdf).
Please consider making an extra donation to fund this item. You can make the donation to the Chelmsford Amenities Fund or the General Amenities Fund. If you would make a notation about the kiosk it would be much appreciated. Upon request, donations of $100 or more for amenities will be recognized by a plaque at the Chelmsford Center Artwalk. A donation of $650 for amenities will fully fund a playground-style bench. Smaller amounts donated to the amenities fund will be used to pay for shipping charges or combined to purchase benches, kiosks, etc.
