SUMMARY:AMC Turns 50 Hike on the Bay Circuit Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating AMC Boston’s 50th Anniversary in 2025 on the Bay Circuit Trail on May 31st. The Bay Circuit Trail circles Boston in a broad crescent from Kingston Bay to Plum Island\, and features a mix of conservation land trails\, road walks\, and opportunities to see historic sites and neighborhoods at walking speed. We are posting trips covering almost the entire trail on May 31 – together we will try to hike the BCT in a single day! We’ll walk a portion of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. \nWe will do the 7 mile section from Lowell\, point D on map 5B to Acton\, near point G on map 5B which can be found at https://www.baycircuit.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/BCT_MapBook_Hike_Nov2024_Map5B.pdf. \nWe will meet at the town parking lot in Acton\, here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MtFx7Gp68xJGUEpL6 \nwe’ll then consolidate into half the cars and carpool to the Lowell start here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir//42.6132228\,-71.3256451/@42.6117265\,-71.3285852\,1354m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e0?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUwNy4wIKXMDSoJLDEwMjExNDU1SAFQAw%3D%3 \nYou can become familiar with the route using this guide: https://www.baycircuit.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Section5B_2024_HIKE.pdf \nNote\, the above says no trail parking at the Lowell end\, but that has been changed and parking is now permitted on weekends! \nPretzel the hiking hound will join us and the trip is open to other well behaved on-leash dogs. \nWe plan a fairly leisurely walk with breaks every 15-20 minutes. Please bring what you require for 4 hours of hiking\, water\, snacks\, lunch\, sun screen\, insect repellent\, first aid\, weather appropriate attire\, etc. \nContact: Jesse Waites (617) 523-0676  jesse@amcboston.org

SUMMARY:Saturday\, May 9\, 2026 - AMC Saturday Cruise on the Bruce Freeman & Mass Central Rail Trails
DESCRIPTION:Come and check out where the Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT) and the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (BFRT) connect on a Saturday morning. \nWHEN: Saturday\, May 9th from 9:30am to 11:30am \nWHERE: 37 Union Ave\, Sudbury\, MA 01776\, where the BFRT and MCRT connect off Union St \nWHAT TO EXPECT: A 2 hour ride on two extensive rail trails in eastern Massachusetts. We will ride at a pace of about 10mi/hour for just under 2 hours. This will be a scenic and social ride on paved rail trails with a few road crossings. The goal of this ride is to experience a new extension of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and to make new friends! We will not be aiming for speed but will go the distance by riding at a casual pace for about 18 miles. This ride will be most comfortable for people who have spent time on their bikes already this spring and have built some riding endurance. It is also ideal for people who want to ride a good distance and do not want to ride on the road. \nWHAT TO BRING: Your bike\, helmet\, and comfortable clothing for riding. A breezy morning can be chillier than you’d expect! Please also come prepared with 2L of water and snacks that you carry either in a small pack or on your bike. If you have a bike maintenance/repair kit\, that is also encouraged. \nWHAT WILL BE PROVIDED: The ride leader will bring along some donuts and juice! \nIf you have any questions or concerns about this ride\, please reach out to the ride leader\, Amber Stearns: astearns@outdoors.org \nIf you are unsure whether the distance and speed of this ride are a good fit for your or not\, don’t hesitate to contact Amber who can provide feedback and assist in your decision. \nIn the case of heavy rain or inclement weather\, this ride will be postponed to the summer. Amber will reach out to registered participants 48-24 hours in advance of the ride to confirm your attendance and provide any additional ride updates.
