Speaker: Craig Della Penna, Northeast Greenway Solutions
Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008
Time: 7:30 PM
Place: Garden in the Woods
180 Hemenway Road

Description: There are a number of rail trail projects in various
stages of planning and development throughout the Northeast and in
Canada. Craig will talk about the status and lessons learned for some
of those projects including the Mass Central Rail Trail in MA,
Farmington Canal Rail Trail in CT, Northern Rail Trail in NH, Island
Line in VT-with connections to Canada, Petit Train du Nord near
Montreal, and the Erie Canal towpath trail in NY. The Mass Central
Rail Trail is of particular interest since it will intersect with the
BFRT.
About the speaker: Craig Della Penna has been an advocate for the
development of rail trails in southern New England - and beyond - for
over 12 years. The 10th Anniversary issue of Ride Magazine named him
the most effective advocate for rail trail issues on the eastern
seaboard. Craig wears a number of hats: as a realtor specializing in
residential properties on or near trails, greenways, and conservation
areas; as the co-owner of a trailside B&B in Northampton, MA; as the
principle with the consulting firm Northeast Greenway Solutions; and as
a partner with the creative land acquisition company, Central Highlands
Conservancy, LLC.
